Chopsticks are an indispensable tool for our daily diet. However, the use of wooden chopsticks for more than 6 months will breed bacteria. Even if they are cleaned and disinfected regularly, it is difficult to ensure the hygiene of chopsticks.

How often should chopsticks be replaced?

1.Wooden chopsticks or bamboo chopsticks

Natural bamboo chopsticks are favored by people without any toxins, but it is easy to breed a large number of bacteria. Failure to do disinfection may cause gastrointestinal diseases. Bamboo tableware is used for 6 months to a year and disinfected once a week. If bamboo and wooden chopsticks are used for a long time, the end color will become darker, but it is easy to drop slag and mold. There are some colored chopsticks on the market, but they will contain heavy metals such as cadmium and lead, which may cause cancer or heavy metal poisoning after inspection. When you find that the chopsticks are cracked or deformed or the color changes, you should throw them away.

Some people like to use metal chopsticks and think it is safe and use it for life, but this is actually wrong. Once the coating on the metal chopsticks is peeled off, prolonged use may cause loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting, and diarrhea. When it is found that the chopsticks of metal products are scratched, the surface paint should be replaced in time.

Chopsticks made of plastic are lighter to handle and not easily broken, but if they are too long, they may become brittle and age, easily spill harmful small molecules and eventually induce cancer. When plastic cutlery is found to be scratched, the surface becomes rough or has a pungent smell, it should be replaced in time.

How to properly disinfect chopsticks?

1.Steam or boil for disinfection

Put the chopsticks on the steamer and boil for another 30 minutes. Allow the patient to cool naturally. When using chopsticks, do not let the cloth wipe the chopsticks, or they will become a source of infection again. After cleaning the chopsticks, put them in the pot and add water. After boiling on high heat, continue to cook for 30 minutes, which can completely kill the viruses and bacteria inside.

2. Reasonable use of drug disinfection

If chopsticks are not resistant to high temperatures, you can use bleach or potassium permanganate disinfectant to soak. When soaking, make sure that the liquid does not pass through the chopsticks. You must soak for about 15-30 minutes. After soaking, rinse with running water.

Tips

In fact, sunlight and ultraviolet rays also have strong sterilization and disinfection capabilities. After washing the chopsticks, they can be exposed to the sun for more than 50 minutes. No matter what kind of chopsticks it is, try to change it once a year. Try not to buy colorful chopsticks, because lead metal may be contained in the chopsticks, which may be mixed into the food and cause lead poisoning.
